A dance school is holding an open day this Saturday to showcase its work and raise funds for a dance mirror, portable ballet bar and new costumes.

The Jillian Atkins Academy of Dance currently holds regular classes at the Grantham Youth Centre, teaching everything from ballet to street to those aged two upwards.

The dream is for the academy to one day secure its own studio. Founder and teacher Jillian Atkins said: “Over the next few months we are aiming to do a variety of different things to help with the fund-raising targets. We are hoping that with the help of our students, parents and volunteers we can achieve this goal.”

Among the volunteers is Hayley Bridle, who said: “Each and every one of the pupils absolutely adores Jillian - the progress her students make and success they achieve are a testament of all her hard work.”

The open day is at the Youth Centre on New Beacon Road from 9.30am-5pm on October 18. As well as dancing there will be a cake sale, face-painting, tombola and raffle, alongside stalls with pampering, books, glassware, loom bands, and nearly new dance wear.

Pitches are still available, and can be purchased for £10 by contacting Jillian on 07706 983532 or by emailing JAtkins4@sky.com.

Donations of prizes for the raffle and tombola will also be welcomed.
