Pupils took over the reins on Friday for Harlaxton Primary School’s Take-over Day.

Pupils donated 50p and taught a subject of their choice to their class. Subjects ranged from skateboarding, lego, dancing and drawing, to decorating gingerbread men, singing, looking after animals and paper folding.

The day was organised by the school council and all money raised went to help a boy called Joram in Uganda who is sponsored by the school to help him pay for school clothes and food.

Supply teacher Judith Macgowan, who teaches Year 5, said: “The children bring in something they are interested in and talk to the class about it. It builds up their confidence, standing up in front of people and it’s about the class taking an interest in someone else other than the teacher. The kids have been very excited and it’s been interesting finding out what the children are interested in.”

Head teacher Sheriden Edwards said: “The children have been very enthusiastic. It builds up their confidence and their skills to share their interests with each other.”

Mrs Edwards has worked with charity Christian Partners in Africa and the school council raises funds throughout the year to sponsor Joram. Find out more about the charity on their website www.cpafrica.org.uk
