Pupils of Charles Read Academy are celebrating the academy’s best set of GCSE results in recent memory.

The Corby Glen academy, which joined the David Ross Education Trust in 2013, has seen the number of students achieving the key Government target of five A*-C, including maths and English, rocket from 32 per cent to 53 per cent in just two years.

Principal Robert Sloan said: “It fills me with immense pride to know that our students are once again setting new standards for this academy.

“This year we have seen a nine percentage point increase in the number of students achieving the key Government benchmark. This is largely due to the fact that our students are exceeding the national average for the progress they are making in key subjects.

“We have high aspirations for our students and our staff are committed to doing everything we can to help them achieve their very best.”

Among the students celebrating were Charlie Farndon, who achieved two A*, five A and two B grades, and Hayley Carrington Day, who achieved four As, four Bs and one C.

Charlie said: “I am ecstatic with the results! This means I can now go on to study science at A-level, which hopefully means I can do medicine or law at university.”

Wendy Marshall, chief executive of the David Ross Education Trust, said: “This is an academy that believes in every single one of its students.

“These results show that the young people at Charles Read are responding to this highly personalised approach and pushing themselves to achieve more.

“From the opening of their new 3G sports pitch, to winning awards at the Summer Cup in front of Denise Lewis OBE, these results mark an unforgettable year for the academy.”
