Students at Walton Girls’ High School are celebrating some excellent individual achievements in securing the grades required to progress to the school’s sixth form.

Once again, students have excelled especially well in the specialisms of visual and performing arts, languages and vocational education.

Principal Christine Horrocks said: “I am pleased that our performance in five+ A*-C including English and Maths has continued to exceed the floor target.

“As a relatively small girls’ school with a co-educational sixth form we really do know our students as individuals and can provide them with the personalised support and guidance they need. I feel girls’ confidence really grows in a single sex environment and it has been wonderful watching them mature during their GCSE studies.

“We now have more students than ever before staying on into the sixth form. I think this is partly due to the fact that our curriculum at Key Stage 4 and in the sixth form enables students to study a breadth of subjects, both academic and vocational depending on their aspirations, interests and abilities.

“These results reflect the commitment and hard work of our students and staff and I am really looking forward to hearing of students’ continued success whether it is at our sixth form or in alternative career progression.”

Several students expressed their pride in their results.

Hannah Breedon said: “I am very happy with my results and am going to be studying musical theatre. I’m really looking forward to it now.”

Erin Robertson said: “I am really happy with my results! I can’t wait to start sixth form at Walton and I am really excited to be doing biology and chemistry in September.”

Jasmine Slater said: “I’m so relieved! I can’t wait to start Walton sixth form now!”

Hannah Armson, who was head girl in Year 11, said: “I am so relieved now I have my results as I can get into Walton sixth form! So, so, so pleased with my A* in drama. Slightly nervous about starting sixth form but sure I will be fine once I get started.”
