Parents with children transferring primary to secondary school in September 2015 can apply for places from Tuesday, September 9.
They need to apply for a school place a year in advance and need to have their application packs and apply online by the deadline of October 31, 2014 – go to www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/schooladmissions
Last year, 96 per cent of parents applied for a school place online making this the preferred method of choosing a school. This way of applying is so popular because the school admissions website has lots of information and links designed to help choose a school, but if parents don’t have a computer they can apply by phone on 01522 782030 or can ask for an application form.
Parents can log on from midnight on March 2, 2015 to find out the school offered to their children.
Councillor Patricia Bradwell, executive councillor for children’s services, said: “With 96 per cent of parents applying online the system has proved to be very popular. I know that being able to log on from 2 March 2015 to find out the result is something parents like. We have over 90 per cent of children being given their first preference and there is no reason why this should not continue next year.”
Many schools are becoming academies but the system for applying for a place has stayed the same. Parents should ask their primary school or preferred grammar school about any 11+ arrangements. The letter that parents of children in Year 6 receive via their primary school explains about home to school transport and this may be an important consideration for choosing a secondary school.
No school can only look at applications which put it as a first preference – all offers are made by referring to the published admission policy. No school can ask parents what school they put down as first preference.
For parents of younger children who will start in reception in September 2015 the application process begins on November 17, 2014. The closing date for these applications is January 15, 2015.
It is essential for parents to make an application even if the child has a sibling in the preferred school or already attends the school’s nursery. Parents who apply online for primary school places will be able to log on and find out the result of their application from midnight on April 16, 2015.
