A world champion bobsledder visited a Welbourn school as part of the Sky Sports Leaders Programme.

Nicola Minichiello, who won gold and silver at two World Championships in 2005 and 2009 and also competed in three Winter Olympics, visited Sir William Robertson Academy. The former Olympian, who now works as head of performance for the Netherlands Olympic Bobsleigh team, treated key stage 3 pupils to a presentation in their assembly. Other year groups, including the sixth form, also enjoyed sessions with the ex-athlete.

Head of PE, Kerry Symmons, said: “It is wonderful for the pupils to hear first hand how successful sports personalities got started in their chosen sport and develop into a World Champion. The pupils found the whole day very inspirational.”
