Plans for a swimming pool at Priory Ruskin Academy have been amended to move the orignal site from the playing field to the existing sports complex at the other side of the school.

Headteacher Clive Shepherd told the Journal that he expected the new pool to be built in 18 months’ time.

The pool is phase three of the building programme that is happening at the Rushcliffe Road school. Mr Shepherd said that phase one of the building programme of the new school was almost complete and phase two would be a well-being centre for the sixth form.

Mr Shepherd said there had been no objection to the siting of the pool on the playing field from nearby residents.

The original plan was for a sports pavillion including swimming pool, changing areas, clubhouse, viewing deck and a first floor sports lab. He said: “The reason we have modified the plans is not because of objections . The plans for the pool got approval a year ago. This will be an add-on to the sports centre.”

Mr Shepherd said planning approval would have to be sought for the new site.

In the meantime, the school is planning a well-being centre for the sixth form which will put an emphasis on sport and health with new sports labs and lessons in nutrition, rehabilitation and sport physiotherapy.

Mr Shepherd said it would be part of a state-of-the-art sixth form which would be able to provide a much wider curriculum for those in post-16 education.

He added: “Plans are very much on track.”
