Summer may be here but school isn’t out!

Fifty students aged six to 17 joined a summer workshop at Walton Girls’ High School in Grantham, to rehearse and put on a performance of Matilda. For six hours a day, the youngsters were put through their paces with a fitness warm-up, singing drills and displays of acting skills.

And the finale to the workshop was a performance in front of family and friends.

Kim Pell, a teacher at Walton Girls’, said: “The improvement the students have demonstrated from day one has been nothing but remarkable. The performance at the end of the week was absolutely superb.”

The workshop was run by Matthew Hewitt of production company MJH Productions, choreographer Andrew Williams and singing coach Lee Harvey.

Matthew said: “We had a wonderful week and the kids have been absolutely fantastic. Grantham and the surrounding area has lots of

talented people and it has been a pleasure working with them.”

Matthew also runs the Grantham Academy of Performing Arts. Anyone interested in joining can e-mail him at perform@gapa.me
