PROUD parents burst into tears when their son’s name was announced from the podium at the region’s Apprenticeship Awards on Friday.
Whereas Jason Moore was stunned to be called up to the stage to collect his award for Young Apprentice of the Year.
As reported in the Journal last week, St Hugh’s Academy pupil Jason was nominated for the prestigious award after impressing his college assessor, school apprenticeship co-ordinator and employer Grantham Honda.
Going on to impress judges, Jason was shortlisted as a finalist for the East Midland’s Young Apprentice of the Year category.
After winning at the ceremony in Derby on Friday, Jason will go on to the national final in London next month.
He said: “I was very surprised when I heard my name. I didn’t think I was going to win.”
Dad David added: “I had a lump in my throat. I’m a very proud dad. His mother was in tears.”
This week, Jason’s principal at St Hugh’s Academy praised him as a shining example to his fellow students.
She said: “We are, as a school, incredibly proud. It makes a difference to younger students in the school when they see what can be achieved with hard work and dedication.”
Jason will begin an NVQ Level 3 at Grantham College in September to continue working towards his dream of one day owning his very own garage.
