PUPILS at The Phoenix School had a treat recently when two Notts County footballers visited to show them some skills.
Jeffrey Hughes and Robert Burch took part in training sessions and spoke to the pupils about how they had got into the game.
Head of PE at the school Darren Taxis was really pleased when he found out that the school had been chosen for the visit.
He said: “It’s gone really well. The kids have really enjoyed it.
“It’s brilliant to have some professional sports people coming into the school, it’s quite inspiring for all the pupils. And it’s showed them how hard the players had to work to get to where they are now.”
Neither of the players had ever visited the school before but they both enjoyed it.
Burch said: “They’ve been cheeky but they’re a good bunch of lads and some of them have some real talent. It’s good to see the boys and girls and do our bit for the club.”
Hughes added: “It’s been really good today. These schools are good to come to.”
As part of the link between the school and the club some of the pupils will also get to go and watch County play against Hartlepool in October.
The players, who have only lost once at home this season, hope they will see them win.
Hughes said: “We’re doing well at the moment, just taking it one step at a time and see how it goes.”
