A talented badminton player from Charles Read Academy in Corby Glen was specially selected for a VIP masterclass with former badminton international Nathan Robertson this week.

Ryan Curtis, 14, who plays for the Academy and Grantham Badminton Club, spent the day at the National Badminton Centre perfecting his technique, with one-to-one training and advice from the Olympic and Commonwealth medallist.

Ryan, a student at Charles Read Academy, said: “I really enjoyed the session, it was so good to learn from a professional player and I have gained lots of skills. This will enable me to win more games in the future and improve my ranking nationally.”

The masterclass session, organised by the David Ross Education Trust, also provided the chance for Ryan to meet British Badminton Doubles champions, Chris and Gabby Adcock, who took Gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Nathan said: “Ryan had a great session and worked incredibly hard. He has a big future in the sport. Hopefully, he has learned some new skills and trick shots that he can take into future games.”
