MORE than 100 children at Ancaster Primary School took part in a national record-breaking attempt to promote sign language.

The pupils were joined by 130,000 other children around the country who all sang a special “Sign to Sing” song at the same time on Wednesday afternoon.

Alastair Willis, aged 10, said: “I’ve really enjoyed it and I think it’s been a good opportunity to learn an extra part of the curriculum.

“But my favourite bit has been knowing we are doing it for children that can’t hear.”

As well as taking part in the record-breaking attempt, the children also donated close to £100.

Headteacher Katie Durant said: “The kids have absolutely loved it.

“We took part in the record-breaking attempt last year and hopefully we have beaten that this year.”
