Two 10-year-old schoolgirls have inspired a new cookbook containing the favourite recipes of people in their community.

Mimi Pilkington and Ellie Sarginson, who are pupils of Waltham-on-the-Wolds Primary School, got the idea for the WOW Cook Book through their love of cooking.

Family members and friends have contributed their own favoured dishes with
proceeds going towards the cost of improving the village school’s outdoor play equipment.

The glossy, high-quality book, which has been supported by a host of local businesses, contains more than 100 illustrated recipes.

Mimi’s mother, Miranda, who is also a school governor at Waltham, said: “The girls were interested in cooking and they said one day it would be great to get together everyone’s favourite recipe in the community and put them all in a book.

“What’s really lovely is the children at school all want to make the recipes in the book.”

The book costs £7.50 and is on sale in Waltham, at the school, the Post Office, Waltham Deli, the Cottage Salon hairdressers, as well as at the Good Grub Company Farm Shop and Tea Rooms at Eastwell crossroads.

It will also be sold at the Waltham Christmas Fayre, in the village hall this Saturday, where there is a free entry.

Local food businesses which have supported the book include Mars UK, Samworth Brothers, the Royal Horseshoes pub in Waltham and the Tollemache Arms at Buckminster.
