A-Level results continue to improve at Walton Girls’ High School.

A total of 41.7 per cent of students achieved A8-B grades, an increase of 13 per cent on the previous year.

Principal Christine Horrocks said: “I am once again delighted that the hard work of students and staff together with support from parents has led to another year of record results but more importantly has provided students with the qualifications and grades required to pursue further studies at university or secure quality training and employment. More students have applied to university this year and all students who applied have been offered a place.

“Once again we had 100% retention from Year 12 to 13 which I feel is due to our success at getting students on the right course for them together with an extremely effective pastoral system which provides students with clear support and guidance. An indication of our success is shown in the anticipated 48% increase in sixth form numbers next year, hence we are currently having several additional classrooms built over the summer holidays.”

Student Chloe Streets, 18, achieved a Distinction * in Business, an A in Fine Art and a C in English Literature. Chloe, who is going to study English Literature at Essex University, said: “I wanted an A in Art so I am really happy. I am very excited, I want to be an English teacher.”

Rachel Wilkins, 18, of Bottesford, is going to York University to study Law after achieving an A* and two As. She said: “It’s just what I wanted. I want to be a barrister so I am very happy.”

Jessica Haxby is delaying going to university for a year but is keen to be a fashion designer and so was delighted to achieve a double distinction * in Art and Design and a Merit in Business. She said: “I want to be a fashion designer and this has really boosted my confidence about doing it.”
