THREE catering students from Grantham College have won awards in an international cake competition.

The students entered their cakes into the Cake International Competition at London Excel Centre at the end of April as a follow on from a Birmingham cake competition they entered in November last year.

Ann Jones, a Level 2 catering student and part time college refectory worker, won a silver award for her 3D creation of an old cottage.

Larna Foster, a Level 2 catering student, won a bronze award for her ‘Kitchen Capers’ cake and Jake Gilbert, a Level 3 catering student, earned a merit of achievement for his crafted shoe box creation.

Refectory head chef Tracie West said: “These students all worked on their cakes in their own time, even coming in over the Easter holidays so that they could compete in the competition.

“All three are hoping to attend more classes to help them to prepare for the competition which is being held in Birmingham in November.

“I am so proud of them”
