Farmland near Grantham may become solar farms

Two solar farms could be built in villages around Grantham, if plans are approved.

Two applications submitted to South Kesteven District Council are requesting guidance on whether the developments are subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment, prior to the submission of a planning application.

If the plans proceed, land off Gonerby Lane in Allington will be home to solar farm taking over 54 hectares. Four agriculatural fields currently make up the area.

The second solar farm is earmarked for land off Crabtree Road in Skillington. If approved, it will see multiple rows of solar panels measuring up to three metres in height cover a 60 hectare stretch of land which is currently used for grazing.

In the planning applications, the applicant states that they are likely to have a 25-year life span.
