Tuesday, 3pm - A WIND measuring mast at the site of controversial proposed wind farm in the Vale of Belvoir has been sabotaged, according to developers Infinergy. The firm made the vandalism public today - the opening day of its appeal against a decision by South Kesteven District Council to refuse permission to build 10 turbines on the site at Thackson's Well, near Normanton and Long Bennington.

Infinergy, which discovered the vandalism on Friday, said the wires on the anemometer appeared to have been deliberately cut.

Project director Herbert Lindlahr said: "It is very distressing to find this expensive equipment has been deliberately damaged.

"This is not the result of random vandalism and we can only assume that this is the action of someone who does not agree with our proposals.

"It is disappointing that they felt it necessary to resort to sabotage, rather than choosing to come to the appeal and air their views in the appropriate manner.

"The inquiry process allows for all to have their say, and it's a shame that people aren't satisfied with using this opportunity to give a reasoned view of their opinions."

The firm has reported the matter to Lincolnshire Police.
