Wednesday, 1.15pm - KNOWLEDGEABLE people living in the Vale of Belvoir have put their heads together to write a book on the history of a select group of villages.

The book, titled Not Forgetting Aspects of Village Life in Bottesford, Easthorpe, Muston and Normanton, was launched last month.

The project was headed by the Bottesford Community Heritage Project.

Their aim was to explore events and changes in the villages, which form the parish of Bottesford and Muston, from 1850 to the present day.

Work to compile material began in 2006, using an archive of village pictures and people's memories.

The chapters look at the church and chapel, farming memories and transport.

The book also dedicates a chapter to Bottesford National School, which existed from 1863 to 1902.

Readers can also find out what life was like in Bottesford during the First and Second World Wars.

The book is illustrated throughout with photos both old and more recent, maps and advertisements placed in Bottesford shops and businesses from the 1920s.

Three years on from the start of the project and all involved are over the moon with the finished product.

Barbara Pizzey, the project'ssecretary, said: "The chapters have been written by 11 local people.

"The project started with the history society in the village and devloped from there.

"It really is a great community project."

An interactive website works alongside the book, giving readers the chance to comment on it and share their own memories.

All proceedswill be used to maintain the website, further research and future publications.

The book, priced at 12, is available through the website and is also on sale in Grantham at Buy the Book in The George Centre, WHSmith in the High Street, and Downtown at Gonerby Moor.
