Wednesday, 10.55am - PRO-wind farm campaigners held a demonstration in Grantham yesterday calling for urgent action on climate change.Members of the Sustainable Energy Alliance paraded a large hour glass outside the Guildhall in St Peter's Hill to get across their message that "time is running out" to take action.

The group is supporting plans to build a huge wind farm at Thackson's Well, north of Grantham, and spent time collecting signatures of support for the project and speaking to the public about it.

SEA's UK co-ordinator Jonathan Lincoln, who has his expenses paid by wind farm developer Infinergy when lobbying support for the Thackson's Well project in the area, said: "The UK could be a world leader in the clean and cutting-edge renewable energy industry.

"We are better placed than anywhere else in Europe to access this source of power. The twin threats of oil and gas depletion and climate change mean we face difficult choices about the future of our electricity supply."

Supporter Brian Widdowson, from Long Bennington, said, "I hope local people will familiarise themselves with the proposals and make their concerns about climate change known to the planners.

"I hope local residents will back the plans for this wind farm."

A FULL day has been set aside for South Kesteven District Council's development control committee to decide whether a wind farm should be built in the Vale of Belvoir.

The committee will meet at 10.30am on Tuesday, March 11 in the ballroom at the Guildhall, in St Peter's Hill, Grantham.

If a decision cannot be reached in the time allowed, the meeting will continue on Monday, March 17.
