Chris raises £800 to help people brought up in care

Tuesday, 3.45pm - A CHARITY which helps people who grew up in care has received 800 in donations during National Care Leavers' Week (Nov 26 - 31).Chris Simpson, 40, of Alford Street, Grantham, ran a stall in the Isaac Newton Centre for three days, a stall at Asda for one day and took part in a sponsored swim to raise the money.

Chris grew up in care and is now an executive for the Care Leavers' Association charity.

He said: "It was a tough week and a lot of work but it was definitely worth it and I am already thinking about next year.

"I'm really pleased with the money raised. I was getting donations of a few coins upwards and even had a donation of 100 on my Just Giving website from someone I had never met which is mind-blowing really."

Chris had so much interest that he has arranged a Grantham meeting for next week.

He said: "I was amazed with how many people came up to speak to me and decided to arrange this meting. The CLA secretary is also coming along to meet people and offer advice.

The meeting is at the GMB office in the Market Place at 7.30pm on Thursday, December 17.
