Saturday, 7am - SOUTH Kesteven District Council is refusing to reconsider its decision to limit free travel for the over-60s and disabled in the next six months.

Saturday, 7am - SOUTH Kesteven District Council is refusing to reconsider its decision to limit free travel for the over-60s and disabled in the next six months.Despite 500 passengers signing up to the Journal's Bus Pass Justice campaign and every other council in the county lifting their time restrictions, SKDC is sticking to its guns.

It says more information is needed before any decisions can be made, leaving many pensioners stranded in Grantham area villages and left out of pocket when they have to travel before 9.30am.

A council spokesman said: "The six month timescale still stands.

"The comments raised in your petition will be taken into account throughout the consultation period.

"We understand and appreciate that there is a problem in some rural areas. We have been gathering information on routes where buses are limited and are looking into the options and working with operators to ensure that common sense prevails."

Passengers travelled from Ancaster - one of the worst affected villages - into Grantham a fortnight ago to hand in the Journal's Bus Pass Justice petition to portfolio holder Coun Maureen Spencer-Gregson.

The coupons and e-mails have been passed to acting chief exectuive Beverley Agass.

The 10-strong contingent asked if SKDC would reimburse their 2.60 bus fares as the only bus they could catch was the 9.24am - six minutes before free travel comes into force - but the council said this would not be possible.

Demand justice for our over-60s and disabled travellers.
