Friday, 7am - SUPPORTERS of plans for a wind farm in the Vale of Belvoir were taken on a visit to a working wind farm near Kettering by developer Infinergy on Tuesday.People in favour of Infinergy's plans to build ten turbines at Thackson's Well, near Normanton and Long Bennington, went to see the Burton Wold wind farm.

They spoke to landowner and farmer Stuart Beaty about noise, threat to wildlife and health issues and toured the ten turbines which have been built on his land.

Infinergy's communications manager Marlies Koutstaal said: "In our experience most people that object to wind farms have never had the benefit of visiting one.

"We hope other people will follow our supporters' example and experience wind power for themselves. Although our guests did support wind power before the trip they still had questions which needed answering."

Infinergy said members of the contingent from Long Bennington and the surrounding area were shocked by how quiet the turbines are at close quarters.

Melissa Schofield-Linnell, from Alverton near Normanton, said: "They are far quieter than I expected and far quieter than the traffic going through my village and that is right on my doorstep."

Infinergy is appealing against a decision by South Ketseven District Council to reject their plans for the Thackson's Well wind farm.

The eight-day appeal begins at The Olde Barn Hotel, near Grantham, on Tuesday, September 30.
