Sunday, noon - A PLAQUE commemorating men from Grantham who died in the First World War was unvelied in Wyndham Park was unvelied on Tuesday.Wyndham Park was opened as a town memorial to the people who died during the conflict and the new plaque is a replica of the original in the archway leading to the park from Hill Avenue.

The unveiling ceremony was organised by members of Wyndham Park Forum and attended by Col Mark Underhill, commanding officer at Grantham's Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, and Ron Young of the Machine Gun Corps Old Comrades' Association.

The Machine Gun Corps was based at Belton during the war and many soldiers from Grantham were recruited.

Elizabeth Bowskill of Wyndham Park Forum said: "The forum was able to complete this project thanks to funding received from the Rotary Swimmarathon. "The participation of so many representatives of the armed services, including a guard of honour and bugler from the King's School CCF, made this ceremony a memorable occasion."
