Tuesday, 1.30pm - BLOCKING pavements and parking at a jaunty angle has become something of a summer tradition, and this week we've been inundated with pictures.Spotted outside St Mary's Church in North Parade on Sunday was the clearly-labelled chaufeur driven car of Newark and Sherwood District Council vice-chairman Tom Bickley.

It was one of a number of cars (two of which were driven by members of the Institute of Advanced Motorists) blocking the pavement because of a civic service for Armed Forces Day.

Our Dozy Parker spotter said: "Having a council sticker in the window clearly gives carte blanche to park anywhere regardless of how difficult it makes pedestrians with buggies to walk past.

"Members of the armed forces just stood by and watched me struggle to get past car after car without an offer of assistance nor an apology."

When contacted by the Journal this week, Mr Bickley claimed the car was not obstructing anybody.

He said: "You know what the public are. I don't think you would struggle there with a pram, but if she says she did then I believe her."

More Dozy Parkers have been spotted up to their tricks around the town this week.

There was a masterclass in how not to behave at a junction from an Audi driver on Saturday.

We've also enjoyed the magnificent sight of drivers taking up two parking spaces in Westgate and Asda car park.

Westgate was also the scene of a splendid bit of double parking.
