Thursday, 2.05pm - NINE bus routes are being looked at by South Kesteven District Council to see if the current 9.30am time restriction on free travel for bus pass holders can be lifted. The Journal has been campaigning for bus pass justice since it was revealed last month that SKDC would be the only authority in the county to restrict free travel.

Hundreds of bus pass holders signed our petition calling for a fair deal. Worst affetced by the restrictions are villagers in Ancaster, whose only morning bus runs at 9.26am, leaving them no choice but to pay 2.60 to travel or wait until 1.30pm for the next bus.

This is believed to be one of the routes being looked at by the council and bus operators.

SKDC's acting corporate head for finance Richard Wyles said: "So far we've identified nine bus routes where the 9.30am restriction coupled with an infrequent service (less than every 3 hours) is causing a problem for people in rural areas.

"We are talking to the bus operators about these routes to see if we can reach a workable solution for everyone affected.

"Councillors will be considering all the feedback we've received from concerned bus users later in the summer as part of the wider review of all the issues raised by local people."
