The new camera will be put up by the end of next week once it has been programmed.

The work has been carried out after campaigners called for action on improvements promised in the area by South Kesteven District Council more than seven years ago.

Andy Clark, a governor at nearby Huntingtower School, was the first to call for something to be done after reporting drug dealing, graffiti and vandalism in and around the tunnel.

He said: "I'm very happy that the camera is finally going up.

"It's just a shame it took us having to go to the Journal and make the lack of action public to get something done.

"It's certainly nice to see the council has listened and I'll be interested to find out what further improvements will be made to the area."

The new camera covers the road going past the school and the path and entrance to the tunnel.

White lighting will help give clearer pictures from the camera.

SKDC's partnership and community safety service manager Mark Jones said: "Having the camera in place will help reassure local residents and users of the tunnel as well as helping to deter anyone looking to deface the tunnel."
