Tuesday, 11.30am - LADIES love handbags and this was proved with a hugely successful Handbags and Gladrags party in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer which raised 1,700.Organised by breast cancer survivor Linda Painter and her daughter Megan, the party at Barkston village hall could have sold out three times over.
Hundreds of hanbags were donated and re-sold to guests, with some ladies buying up to six on the night, and a raffle and auction boosted the final total.
Almost 100 left over bags will be donated to the Cancer Research shop in Grantham and several will be sold on an internet auction site to raise more money.
Linda said she was overwhelmed with the support. She said: "It was a raving success.
"People were really in the mood to have fun and forget all the doom and gloom in the news at the moment.
"We're delighted to have smashed our 1,000 target."
Linda will now name a brick in Breakthrough's wall at its research centre after Megan.
The pair are planning a similar event for the spring and hope to find a bigger venue to accommodate more guests.
