Thursday, 11.50am- A WOMAN who runs exercise classes has raised 760 for Breast Cancer Awareness.Jackie Whatley has run the Stretch and Flex exercise classes for 18 years.

She put a collection box at the front of the classes and also held a coffee morning at Grantham Squash Club in aid of the charity.

Jackie said: "I would like to thank Grantham Squash Club for letting us use the venue to hold a coffee morning for free.

"I would also like to give thanks to the ladies from the classes for all the support they have given me in raising the money.

"I was not expecting to raise that much. I'm impressed."

Jackie's brother-in-law, Gio Mespoli, also ran a half marathon to help raise money for the cause.

Every year Jackie and her exercise classes raise money for different charities.

They chose to collect money for breast cancer this time for the whole of October because it was breast cancer awareness month.

Jackie said: "This is the most the group has raised for a single charity."

Last year they raised slightly more but it was donated to two charities.

Jackie added: "Grantham Breast Cancer Support Group needs supporting.

"They've been fantastic. We don't need to lose them."

Around 60 to 80 people go to the four exercise classes each week.

The classes are held at different locations including Grantham Squash Club, the community centre on Trent Road and Gonerby Hill Foot Primary School.

Jackie said: "The numbers go up just after Christmas, I expect 80 then."

All age groups attend the classes and more members are always welcome.

Jackie added: "People pay as they go. If they don't come they don't pay. "

Jackie started the exercise classes after working for a local gym.

She hopes she can keep running them for years to come.

She said: "Ilike to think I can keep going for 20 years and also keep my health."
