MRS Gladys Elizabeth Hare (Betty), of Bottesford, has died at Newton House Nursing Home, Grantham. She was 81.

MRS Gladys Elizabeth Hare (Betty), of Bottesford, has died at Newton House Nursing Home, Grantham. She was 81.Born at Bottesford, the daughter of Cyril and Lizzie Jackson, she had two brothers Wallace and Bill.

She met George and they married in 1953 and lived for a time in Grantham, before returning to Bottesford. They had eight children, four boys and four girls.

She also had grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family enjoyed seaside trips and holidays to Scarborough and she also enjoyed a holiday at Magaluf.

During her working life she drove a bread van for Simpsons Bakers, Bottesford, and worked on the land, potato picking.

She later worked at Woolworths, and then Grantham Hospital before becoming a cook at The Rutland Arms, Bottesford.

The couple were married for 55 years and Mrs Hare enjoyed keeping house for her family, cooking, knitting and sewing.

Following several strokes Mrs Hare moved to Newton House, where she was well looked after and she joined in the activities and liked singing old time songs.

The funeral service was held at St Mary's Church, Bottesford, conducted by lay minister Judith Wells. Burial followed in the churchyard.

Hare, Jane and Billy Cope, Kevin and Karen Cope, Michelle Cope, Tracy, Grace and Emily Parker and Glenn, Susan and Gary Gilder, Steven Hare, Alec Bonser, Christopher, Rachael, Alice and Alexander Hare, Alan Hare and Sue Dowsett, Karen Hare, Shirley Dring, Richard and Jayne Dring, Victoria Dring, Robert Jackson, Margaret and Terry Rear, Sara, Fred and family, Michelle, Chloe and Joshua Church, Mr and Mrs S. Halsey, Mr and Mrs M. Aitman, David Hare and Mr and Mrs P. Hare.

Other mourners included: Carol Rose and Clare Hockenhull, Gillian and Andy Dernie, Barry Jacks, Malcolm Owen, Sue Dunsmore, Margaret Pacey, Annie Norris, Hannah Nesbitt, Tina Buggins, Doreen Patchett and Mr A. Gamble.

Funeral arrangements were by William Roberts and Sons, Devon Lane, Bottesford.

Donations received for Newton House Nursing Home amount to 176 to date.
