MRS Norma Christine Tilley, of School Lane, Old Somerby, has died at Grantham Hospital. She was 80.
MRS Norma Christine Tilley, of School Lane, Old Somerby, has died at Grantham Hospital. She was 80.Mrs Tilley was born at Grantham. On leaving school she began working in the moulding shop at Ruston and Hornsby, before leaving school to take up employment at Tebbut's Bakery.
In the summer of 1947, when aged 18, she met Bill at The Granby public house at Grantham. They were married at St Wulfram's Church, Grantham, in October 1951 and Norma gave up work soon afterwards to concentrate on raising a family. She and Bill settled in Stainby for the first three years, before moving to South Witham in 1954, where they lived for the next 15 years. During this time they managed The Blue Cow public house for a while.
In 1969 they moved to Grantham with their four children. Mrs Tilley began work at Grantham Electrical Engineering as an electrical harness maker, and she remained there until her retirement.
In November 1982 she and her husband moved to Old Somerby.
Mrs Tilley enjoyed knitting, bingo, caravanning and collecting piggy banks and garden gnomes. In her youth she enjoyed dancing. She was an excellent pianist and played the piano accordion.
The funeral service was held at St Mary's Church, Old Somerby, conducted by Robert Holland. Cremation followed at Grantham.

Funeral arrangements were by Robert Holland, St Catherine's Road, Grantham.
Donations for the NSPCC amount to 350 to date.
