Thursday, 10.45am - NEW warning signs were fitted to the railway bridge in Harlaxton Road on Sunday to help reduce the number of bridge strike incidents that have plagued the town for years.Lincolnshire County Council improved the signs following a Journal campaign for action over bridge-bashing incidents, and says further signage is planned in other areas of town.
Area highways manager Mark Heaton said: "Harlaxton Road bridge has had new high-visibility signage installed as part of a programme of works to improve bridge height signage and attempt to reduce the number of bridge strikes around Grantham."
Grantham has three of the 10 most hit railway bridges in the country - in Springfield Road, Harlaxton Road and Barrowby Road - causing frequent disruption to road and rail journeys.
The Journal launched the It's a Low Bridge Stoopid! campaign a year ago to educate drivers and get action taken to prevent the incidents.
In response to the Journal campaign, bridge owner Network Rail installed massive fluorescent signs on all three bridges to warn drivers.
