New life is breathed into 38-year-old scout and guide hut

Tuesday, 4.40pm - A REFURBISHED scout and guide hut in Bottesford has been officially opened.The scouts, cubs, guides, brownies and rainbows who will use the modernised hut were joined at the ceremony by villagers, parents, leaders and people involved with scouting and guiding movements in the past.
Mayor of Melton Elaine Holmes cut the ribbon and was later presented with a basket of flowers by brownie Lucy Patchett.
The hut was built in 1971, and work to refurbish it began in 2005 when the heating started to fail.
Parents and villagers stepped in to help and just three months later a new heating system was installed.
Keen to go the whole hog, the fund-raising continued.
With the help of parish and borough councils, local businesses and tradesmen, parents, villagers and a 10,000 grant from the National Lottery's Awards for All scheme, some 18,000 has been spent.
It now has new toilet facilities, windows, doors, electrics, kitchen and non-slip flooring.
It has also been given a fresh lick of paint and given new curtains and blinds.
