Friday, noon - BELTON House, near Grantham, will host one of the most eagerly anticipated summer events tomorrow - the Spitfire Prom. The spectacular event gives revellers the ideal picnic opportunity and evokes scenes of thousands waving their flags and singing along to the prom-style classics performed in front of the elegant 17th century house.
For many years the undoubted highlight of the Spitfire Prom has been the spectacular aerial display by Charlie Brown and his Spitfire plane.
To hear that Rolls Royce engine approaching Belton through the evening sky is a spine-tingling experience and Charlie never disappoints with his daredevil display of aerobatics in the wonderful old fighter plane, cleverly timed to fit the music.
Once again the combination of rousing flag-wavers and more reflective melodies is provided by the renowned English National Orchestra.
Returning to take up the baton will be flamboyant conductor Jae Alexander.
The orchestra will play an appropriate selection of popular classics, such as Puccini's Nessun Dorma, Nimrod, Pomp and Circumstance and the ever-popular 1812 Overture.
Soloists Wynne Evans (tenor) and Janet Mooney (soprano) will also make a welcome return to Belton to fill the evening air with magnificent song.
Once Charlie Brown and his Spitfire have performed their magnificent tricks, a Prom-style finale brings the evening to its rousing climax, complemented by a stunning firework display.
Property Manager at Belton House Alec Gordon and his staff have been preparing for the event for months.
He said: "The Belton Spitfire Prom is the highlight of our events calendar and promises to be a superb evening.
"Charlie Brown and his display of daredevil aerobatics is truly tremendous. Combined with wonderful music, the magnificent backdrop of Belton House, an awesome atmosphere and fabulous firework finale – this makes for a memorable evening."
Funds raised by The Spitfire Prom concert will help towards carrying out vital conservation work needed at the house.
