October 1981 saw the return of 1950s rock ’n’ roll star Vince Eager to his hometown of Grantham.

Vince played at the BMARC social club and Grantham Rock and Roll Society saw it as an opportunity to invite their hero to become their president.

Society chairman John Reagen offered him the position and Vince accepted the invitation.

Vince was not back from Australia where he played the lead in the musical biography “Elvis”.

The town’s Society invited Vince to attend their October Festival.

Entertainment manager Graham Topham said: “He was right at the heart of the rock ’n’ roll era. Vince has been asked to come along, and he hopes to make it if his commitments permit.”
