‘Full of Eastern promise’ read the headline of a story previewing a production by Harrowby Singers in October 1987.

The singers were putting on Kismet, described as “a musical Arabian Nights story of romance and intrigue”.

The actors told the story of a day in the life of a poet in ancient Baghdad, with accompanying music based on the melodies of Alexander Borodin, including ‘Baubles, Bangles and Beads’ and ‘Stranger in Paradise’.
