Journal reader Malcolm Welbourn casts his memory back to the late 1950s or early 60s to give us details about this picture in his village.

He writes: “I seem to remember every year when i was little we had a fancy dress parade through the Sewstern.

“Everyone would turn out, young and old.

“My dad always led the parade with his sqeezebox.

“I’ve a feeling it was held to raise money to build the village hall, which was opened in 1963.”

Malcolm has provided a line-up of some of the names, but wonders if Journal readers know any others.

He has identified Joe Welbourn (accordian], Roty Christian, Betty Baines, Val Welbourn (behind the umberella), Vera Exton , Malcolm Welbourn (as Noddy), Ann Baines and Bett Hopcroft, with her children Sandra and Stephen .
