Play-off win sealed league title for Allington Boys in 1990

Allington won the title via a playoff.

Allington won the title via a playoff.

Allington Boys were crowned champions of the Newark Uner-14 League in 1990 but needed a play-off win to secure the trophy.

Allington finished level on points with Bingham which meant the two sides had to play each other in a one-off game to see who would be crowned champions.

Michael Best put Allington into an early lead, finishing off an excellent team move down the left.

However, Bingham soon equalised through Dengate.

Best scored again to make it 2-1 to Allington who were then forced to weather an onslaught from the Nottinghamshire side.

But Allington scored the decisive third goal on the counter attack when James McBain crossed to James Neil to score.

Bingham pulled one back late before the end but it wasn’t enough to prevent Allington from being crowned league champions.
