Out and about: The Rat Pack
Monday, 11am - THEY were legends in their own life times and they are probably bigger legends now.
Monday, 11am - THEY were legends in their own life times and they are probably bigger legends now.Known as the Rat Pack - Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin are still going strong, very strong in fact, by the means and talents of Stephen Triffitt, David Hayes and Nigel Casey respectively.
This spectacular production, now on a nationwide tour, celebrates the incredible singing talent of three world-famous entertainers and performers, with some of the finest music and song that has ever been recorded.
Legends of the 20th century, idols of the music industry, superstars of the movies, the Rat Pack were renowned worldwide for their talented voices. All singing, all dancing and all round entertainers the Rat Pack injected not only their songs into the '50's and '60's, but also a lifestyle that everyone wanted. They stormed the world and they stayed at the top. Their recordings are still constantly high in the charts throughout the world.
Nottingham was particularly proud to play host to this production - and rightly so - with a very talented cast and 15-piece orchestra we enjoyed this show very much indeed. Taking a trip back to the glamorous, hot, glitzy nights of Las Vegas. This sensationally staged production brings the music and lives of these legendary characters together again.
The Lady Is A Tramp, I've Got You Under My Skin, For Once In A Lifetime, New York, New York, My Kinda Town, Fly Me To The Moon, That's Life and of course, My Way, were just some of the sixty or so songs that this tribute trio performed. Looking and sounding just about the same as the originals, these three look-and-sound-a-likes had the audience under their spell. I would defy anyone to close their eyes and tell the difference in their voices to Frank, Sammy and Dean. All professional entertainers, in their own right, with many West End and Broadway hits to their credits and when Sammy Davis Jr himself praised the performances of David Hayes by saying "That was the best singing impersonation of me that I have ever heard" - well it doesn't get any better than that does it?
With Frank Sinatra alone selling some 600 million records worldwide and even now his albums sell approximately one million every year. When the Rat Pack were in town - Las Vegas - playing their favourite venue, The Sands, everybody had the best of times and everybody made money. These guys who do the tribute have it all. From the songs and the voices, to the friendly banter which The Rat Pack used to do. The timing of the slapstick humour was spot on. As Dean Martin said, "I was on a whisky diet last week - I lost four days!" With the Burelli sisters adding more glamour to the spectacular evening and having West End, film and television appearances to their credits, it made the whole production "gel". With four encores and two standing ovations, finishing the show with My Way, it was a real pleasure to enjoy this recreation of showbiz history. With over 1,000 performances in the West End, it speaks for itself!
