Andy, from Great Gonerby, shared several jokes with the prince and called it "a life-changing experience".

He said: "His Royal Highness asked several interesting questions and I found him to be very humourous.

"He was very complimentary of my work and to have someone of that stature talk about it like that was amazing.

"Meeting him was an unbelieveable experience and I admire him for his principles on conservation and the great schemes he has set up."

The visit was added to the prince's intinerary after Andy, who restored the boundary walls at the hall a year ago, wrote to Clarence House asking if Prince Charles would like to see his work.

The prince also met the owners of the hall and invited guests and was invited to plant a white mulberry bush in the grounds, following the planting of a black mulberry bush there in the 17th Century under King James I.
