Saturday, 6am - RESULTS of a project to make the town centre more attractive will be plain for all to see in the coming weeks, says Grantham's business community.Grantham Business Club is spearheading Project Pretty, an initiative set up last year to make people more proud of their town centre.

The project has received funding from Grantham Future, some of which has been invested in 50 hanging baskets put up in Westgate, Guildhall Street and the Market Place.

Alastair Hawken, chariman of the Business Club, said: "Grantham faces stiff competition from other towns such as Newark and Stamford which have attractive looking town centres so we are looking to make Grantham's more attractive than in years gone by."

Next week, the Asda roundabout will be given a makeover with a full landscaping effort planned to brighten up a well-used area of the town.

Asda is sponsoring the roundabout and the work will be carried out during the evening hours between July 20 and July 23.

Lia Ibbotson, Grantham town centre manager, said: "The planting will bring a huge improvement to the area for both visitors and residents alike.

"This work is just one of a number of projects that Project Pretty, LCC and SKDC are working on, to improve the landscape of Grantham."

Other plans in the pipeline include welcome signs on 'gateway' routes coming into the town.

Alastair said: "We want to get across on behalf of the business community that we are happy for people to come here.

"Similarly, when people drive out after spending the day shopping we want to say thank you because it does mean a lot to us.

"We hope to get those in place by the end of August."
