Saturday, 8am - CLARINETTIST Oliver Pashley performs a recital next week to raise money for the National Youth Orchestra's performance at the BBC Proms.Oliver, the orchestra's principal clarinettist, has organised the event to help raise the 40,000 needed to fund the concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

The NYO appears in the proms each year, but the withdrawal of sponsorship has left a funding gap.

Oliver said: "I believe that NYO gives such amazing opportunities to young musicians, so it would be a shame for the orchestra not to appear on their Saturday night slot at the Proms due to financial reasons.

"NYO doesn't receive any direct funding from the government, leaving them to find nearly all of their money from charitable sponsors. I would urge people to give as much as possible - I'm extremely grateful for how NYO has helped me as a musician and so I really want to help them out as much as possible."

Oliver will be inviting donations to the cause at the free recital at King's School at 7.30pm on Thursday, July 9.

He will be accompanied on piano by Chris Atkinson, who is going to study at Trinity College of Music in September.
