Monday, 4.15pm - CHRISTMAS celebrations officially began in Grantham this weekend with two days of festive events.The Spirit of Christmas weekend began with a huge event organised by Churches Together on Saturday.
Attractions included a traditional nativity play, live music, massed choir performance and carol singing.
A collection of presents for needy children took place and the event closed with the switch-on of the lights in the crib in St Peter's Hill.
Churches Together organised the event as part of Hope '08, a year-long project designed to demonstrate the Christian faith in action.
Yesterday Grantham Events Group held its popular Christmas Market, with a huge number of events all over the town.
Attractions included live music, Smiley Train and funfair in Westgate, market stalls, craft market at the Guildhall Arts Centre, school displays in the marquee on St Peter's Hill Green, WI food fayre at the Guildhall Ballroom, traction engines and steam organ display in Market Place, and Victorian Christmas event at Grantham Museum.
