Friday, noon - STUDENTS from the catering and hospitality department at Grantham College took part in a cookery challenge organised by the Territorial Army at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks. The challenge was made up of a series of activities including mental tests, an assault course, gun run and field cookery.

Over the two days of the competition, the Grantham students secured top marks in the cookery skills for the second year running, first place in the opening stage and narrowly missing first place to come second overall.

During the competition they served lemon sole with a mushroom and leek filling, medallions of pork on a bed of chicken livers and bacon and plum tatin with a lemon sabayon.

Course leader Ken Hart said: "Our students turned in a fantastic performance on the day and were unlucky to be pipped at the post.

"They comprehensively outperformed every college in the cookery section.

"Their enthusiasm, skills and commitment helped them to outperform teams from much bigger colleges. We're all very proud of them."
