Saturday, 9am - How well do you really know the town you live in? You may think you know everything there is to know about Grantham, but you probably don't unless you're part of the underground world of urban exploration.

Saturday, 9am - How well do you really know the town you live in? You may think you know everything there is to know about Grantham, but you probably don't unless you're part of the underground world of urban exploration.

Unless you're one of the intrepid urban explorers investigating the Grantham area, you might not know about the derelict Second World War airfield near Harlaxton, the crumbling Victorian waterworks to the south of the town or the abandoned nuclear bunker on the edge of a rural field.

He said: "It's all down to my little boy, who's nine-and-a-half. He's got a fascination with old airfields. He wants to do every old airfield in Britain. It's just something he and I do – it's almost an endless supply of entertainment.

"The attraction is down to the history but also to my son's imagination of what it was like 50 years ago."

Many urban explorers go on sites without permission, but Jerry likes to get permission from landowners first.

He said: "I'd much rather ask permission so I don't get shot at. If I've got permission to go on a site then I'll go on there."

Urban exploration is known by a number of names and has various sub-categories.

The pursuit is often known as urbex or UE and is also called urban caving, trolling and reality hacking.
