Thursday, 3.15pm - SKATEBOARDRS and BMXers were back on the slopes at G-Zone this week- a day before the end of the school holidays. The skatepark in Wyndham Park was closed in May while repairs were carried out. It re-opened on Tuesday afternoon and was full of skaters within minutes.

Anthony Ward, 18, of Sandon Road, regularly uses G-Zone with his friends.

He said: "For the extent of damage there was when it closed, I feel it has taken quite a long time to re-opened. It is about time really."

The popular skatepark attracts hundreds of young people every weekend but has had to close down regularly for repairs ever since it was opened in 2004.

Anthony said: "The wood has flaked up. I think they tried to say it was the skateboarders fault and the BMXers but it was actually due to the weather."

The G-Zone committee are hoping to have an official opening of the skatepark on Saturday.

Steve Cummins of the committee said: "There is still a problem with one of the ramps but this Saturday we are hoping to open it properly to the kids."
