Thursday, 5.10pm -JOURNAL photographer Toby Roberts endured one of the most frightening experiences of his life on Friday, helping out bug man Martin Rapley.Toby, despite suffering from arachnophobia, plucked up the courage to help out in the demonstrations, allowing a huge tarantula to crawl over his hands.

He was a nervous wreck when he spoke about the experience five minutes later.

Toby said: "I'm still shaking a bit and I've got sweaty palms.

"I would definitely not do it again. Never, ever. I suppose if your scared of spiders, do it... but that was horrible."

As well as the tarantula, Toby also handled a scorpion, a praying mantis and a stick insect which made a home for itself on top of his head.

He managed to stop shaking long enough to hold the emperor scorpion for children at St. Hugh's Maths and Computing College to take a look at.

He said: "I'm scared of tarantulas, I hate them but the scorpion just felt like it would do more damage to you.

"The tarantula just felt like it was not going to do me harm. It was gentle.

"But the scorpion...I would definitely not do that again."
