Wednesday, 10.45am - HOODIE-WEARING grandmother, Jean Wooldridge, feels so strongly about the hoodie debate that she has penned her own poem.Jean is the latest member of the Wooldridge family to defend the much-maligned clothing, following letters in last week's paper by Jean's daughter-in-law Sally Wooldridge and grandson Jonathan Wooldridge.

The debate began with a letter demanding a campaign to ban hoodies across the country.

Jean, of Wroxall Drive, Grantham, said: "Whoever it was has tarred everyone with the same brush.

"You must not judge a book by its cover. There are, in all walks of life, bad people and some go down the street dressed in suits, so where do you go from there?

"The majority of young people I have come across are good, decent kids."

Jean started wearing her own hoodie during a recent trip around the United States. The experience forms the basis of the poem.

She said: "When I was going to go on holiday my daughter-in-law said I should take a hoodie for the coach trip. Then I could pull it over my eyes to help me sleep.

"It worked really well and it kept me warm and comfortable as well.

"When I wore it nobody said anything bad, I only had compliments. In fact, I was on the roof of the Rockafella Centre and one lady commented how nice it looked."

Jean has never really written a poetry before but her passion for the hoodie inspired her to try.

She has vowed to continue wearing her hoodie now she is back in Grantham.
