Wednesday, 4pm: Members of Grantham Business Club had chance to grill area highways manager Mark Heaton about the Grantham's traffic nightmare at a meeting last night.Mr Heaton promised members that planned gas works in Wharf Road, Grantham, would no longer take place in the run up to Easter and that all roads will be clear of roadworks in December in the run up to Christmas.

Last month traders were outraged when they found out Springfield Road would be closed in one direction, causing severe tailbacks for drivers on their way into town.

The project caught traders by surprise when they were still reeling from a year of roadworks and traffic congestion in the town.

But although he was able to give some good news to traders, Mr Heaton outlined another 10 projects which are going to cause further traffic disruption in town for the first two-thirds of this year.

They include:

January 21 to April: A52 Barrowby to Saxondale roundabout - overnight and weekend closures

March - Resurfacing of Bridge End Road

March - Resurfacing of Belton Lane

March - Resurfacing of Harrowby Lane

April to July: London Road/Wharf Road junction - replacement of traffic lights

Summer: Remodelling of Harlaxton Road/Trent Road junction

No date yet:Improvements to the A1 south sliproad on the A607

No date yet - Resurfacing of Manthorpe Road

No date yet: Resurfacing of High Street

No date yet: Resurfacing and junction changes in Brook Street
