Tuesday, 12.45pm - A CRACKING time was had by all at the 2009 Egg Throwing World Championships in Swaton on Sunday (June 28).Thousands headed to the village for the Swaton Vintage Day and Country Fayre, and people scrambled to enter the different contests.

%%Could not get body element policy for VersionedContentId(1.29688.UNDEFINED)The star attraction and most coveted prize was for the Russian egg roulette contest, whereby competitors take turns choosing an egg to smash into their forehead until they come across one that is not hard-boiled.
%%Could not get body element policy for VersionedContentId(1.29687.UNDEFINED)In a shock result, last year's champion and Swaton celebrity Opal Uptonbrooker was knocked out in the quarter-finals.
%%Could not get body element policy for VersionedContentId(1.29686.UNDEFINED)She said: "I could see the raw egg but unfortunately I lost the toss and the other person went first. I could see my opponent choosing the right eggs until there was only one left and it was mine so I lost spectacularly.

After winning last year's Russian egg roulette Opal, formerly owner of Going Potty in Welby Street, appeared on television news programmes around the world and was invited on This Morning with Philip Schofield.
But this year she was defeated by eventual champion Terri D'eath who had travelled from Cambridgshire for the event.
Following her win, Terri said: "I'm shocked. I only came for a bit of a laugh.
"It was all just luck. I've felt lucky all week actually and I definitely feel lucky now."
A team of Latvian welders swept to victory in the egg trebuchet event- constructing a device which propelled an egg more than 60 metres to be caught by a team member.
In the throwing and catching event, Swaton's own Joe Spencer and George Wattam retained their title.
Andy Dunlop, president of the Rowntree's Randoms World Egg Throwing Championships, said: "This year we have had more people through the gate and more coming to take part.
"We had teams come from Scotland and the Americans were back and failed miserably again.
"The day went so well they actually ran out of beer in the beer tent."
