Monday, 3pm - A WEEK today a £3.1m roadworks scheme expected to last three months will begin on the A52 between Barrowby and Bottesford.

Monday, 3pm - A WEEK today a 3.1m roadworks scheme expected to last three months will begin on the A52 between Barrowby and Bottesford.Four projects will be carried out simultaneously. They are:

Resurfacing of a 2.6 mile stretch of road between Village Street in Sedgebrook and the A52/A1 slip road near Barrowby

Street light improvements along the same 2.6 mile section of road

Signing and lining improvements

Concrete repairs to the carragieway surface near Bottesford.

The work will be done overnight and at weekends, resulting in at least six full weekend closures of the A52 between Barrowby and Bingham.

The first of these closures are expected to take place in August, from Friday 1 to Monday 4 and between Friday 8 and Monday 11.

Others are scheduled from August 29 to September 1, between September 5 and 8, September 19 and 22, and from September 26 to 29.

A final closure could be needed between Friday, October 3 and Monday 6.

Other traffic control measures will include temporary traffic lights, a safety vehicle leading traffic through the site in convoy at 10mph and some overnight closures of the road in both directions.

A week of full overnight closures, from 8pm to 6am, will be in force from MOnday, September 29.

During the closures, the A52 will be closed between Barrowby and the Saxondale roundabout near Bingham.

Traffic will be diverted along the A1 and the A46 towards Bingham or vice versa.

Local diversions will be in place, although they will not be signposted in order to deter large numbers of vehicles from using local routes.

Highways Agency project manager John Warner said: "The work is necessary to ensure the continued safe provision of the A52 and avoid the need for unplanned emergency repairs. When complete road users will get a safer, smoother and quieter ride.

"We have taken the opportunity to complete four different schemes at the same time to minimise long-term disruption to road users and local residents.

"Throughout the works delays are inevitable so we advise people to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly when the A52 is closed, and to take care while driving through the works."
